About Us...
The Georgetown Club of Metropolitan New York is organized as a 501(c)(3) non-profit entity and is directed by an elected board of volunteers. The Club gets its charter from the Georgetown University Alumni Association (GUAA).
Founded in 1881, GUAA works to strengthen friendships and advance the interests of the university by bringing together those who share its past, its present, and its future.
Its members live across the nation and the world and participate in a worldwide network and become part of an international family that will help them personally and professionally throughout their lives. The work of GUAA is carried out by its Board of Governors.
The Board of Governors represents Georgetown alumni, sustaining and developing the interests of alumni in the University's objectives, programs, activities, and achievements. The Board of Governors is responsible for protecting and preserving the traditions of Georgetown alumni and providing and encouraging support for the University.
The alumni senate, an auxiliary of the board of governors, consists of former elected members and officers of the board of governors.
Guiding Principals of the GUAA's Work:
Principle 1
We believe that every student whom the university selects for admission is deserving of our support from the time of acceptance, through campus years, to graduation and beyond.
Principle 2
We believe that it is incumbent upon us as an association to keep our alumni membership apprised of developments in the association and in the larger university community.
Principle 3
We believe that we can best serve our alumni by providing a range of programs that will support them in terms of their personal and professional developments as well as afford them an opportunity to remain in contact with fellow alumni and with the university.
Principle 4
We are committed to providing a means for alumni to serve those less fortunate in our communities.
Principle 5
We believe that we can best serve Georgetown University by providing counsel through the alumni board of governors and by providing financial support through the alumni Annual Fund.
Principle 6
We believe that the achievement of personal and professional excellence by our alumni, as well as their volunteer efforts on behalf of their fellow alumni, the university, and their communities, must be consistently honored.
